"I kept coming back to this idea that we grew up expecting a prosperous future that had already been taken from us," says Dark Archer. "We inherit these expectations about what life is supposed to become, and eventually you have to look around and ask whether any of it was ever actually built for you. Dead on Arrival is the realization that the future we were taught to expect is disappearing before we ever get the chance to live it."

Dead on Arrival continues Dark Archer's exploration of the forces that shape individual identity and autonomy, but turns the lens outward. Where Burning Mind questioned how outside forces can become embedded in a person's own thinking, Dead on Arrival confronts the systems and institutions that shape our expectations for the future, and what remains when those expectations fail.
